Recently I watched as a young mother rushed to comfort her son who fell off a bike. Moments before his fall she warned him not to ride up the curb. He did exactly that. Now he was screaming in tears. I didn’t hear her rebuke or chastise her son. She was hugging him and keeping him close to her heart. The Lord says, “Can a mother … have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!” This is the kind of God Zephaniah knew when he wrote, “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” (3:17). God takes delight in you even when you lose control of your life. He saves you when you fall. He sings over you when you are anxious or distressed. This is what His saving grace is all about. Try it for yourself today.
